GRIEVANCES VENTILATED.
(Per Press Association 7 ;! : FEILDING, May 4. •' A deputation of thirteen sbldijßi settiers fit Kopane, near Feilding, accompanied by the Feilding Repatriation Board, waited on the Minister , of Lands to-day. Mr. E. Newman* M.P., was also present. .; A number of grievances were ta&n> tioned, the principal one being that the Government had charged rent for the first three months of settlement;, during which time soldiers were unable to get on the land owing to tfte Government not fulfilling its promise < to supply fencing, etc. The soldiers claimed remission of rent on this account. / . J The Minister, in reply, said the Government could not make an ex*teeption of Kopane, but after a heaH tc heart talk, he promised to bring before the Government the quejs r tion. of remitting similar charges far broken time for soldier settlement* all over the Dominion. The Hoa; Guthrie also told the deputation'ho expected much good would result from the appointment of supervisor* of soldier settlements. He also said the land purchase boards would finsi the innovation of local advisors valuable in future purchases. ;•' Mr. Newman suggested that tlie Government should make a name fOf themselves by bringing before Paff liament a policy of capitalisation of the first year or two's rent of sbldier|* settlements, instead, of making sojr diers pay rent straight away. *
