Mr N. G. Woods, the newly elected president of the jßotm-ned Soldiers' Association, has hid considerably mili--Inry experience having served in the South African war and the Somali Expedition. He periormed three years' ■garrison duty in E&ypt. and served v-ith the Bntisii Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders.
By the mail from England details vere received of the circumstances connected with the death of 2nd Lieutenant Alex. Campbell Craig, second soa of the late Mr J. J, Craig, of Auckland. The fact was cabled iasfe February that he had been accidentally killed on Ben iS Tavis. It appears that Lieutenant Craig, whilst staying -,v I'ort William, Scotland, on demobilisation leave, decided to make an ascent oi: Ben Navis, accompanied by a comiade. They reached the top saffely, £.nd had lunch. Or: the return journey Lieutenant Craig was crossing » small ice crevice, which suddenly collapsed, and precipitated him head first tor fully fifty feet. His companion started "searching, hut life was extinct when he found Lieutenant Craig.
