BIG INCREASES FOR OFFICERS

(Per Press Association.') WELLINGTON, March 29. The new rates of pay and allowances for the New Zealand Forces (foreign and home services) sin i New Zealand permanent forces, ha re been finally approved and will be promulgated shortly through general orders. The* new rates of p>'*y for officers on foreign service come into force :ts from April Ist. 1918., and are now hiing paid, together with arrears due. The new rates are: Colonel (single) £750, (married) £805. Lieut.-Col. £615, (£670). Major £475 (£530). Captain £865, (£420). Lieutenant £265, (£320). Second-Lieutenant £265, (£320). These include 3s per diem formerly paid as separation allowance. 'Medical, dental and veterinary .oftcers are entitled to £18" per annum in addition to'paj of rank. If any officer, warrant officer, i-r non-commis-sioned officer is woundel or injured while holding temporary rank, pay may continue to be made at the rate appropriate to the temporary instead <_f the permanent rank untilhe rejoins \m unit'or is discharged is consequence •"•? medical tmfitness caused by sush wound or injury.
