DEATH OF MR. G. W. SAMPSON

It is with great regret that we have to announce this morning the death of Mr G. W. Sampson, late Chief Postmuster at AYanganui. He rotired from that official position in October. 1916, and since tlien fie had devoted a gu'eat i-mount of his time to patriotic work, ■which he was recently compelled to relinquish, owing to failing health. Among his many activities, he was an enthusiastic member of the Agricultural Association, and was keenly interested in all that made for the well-being of the town and district. A courteous and able officer and a worthy citizen, Mr. Sampson was held in high esteem by all who knew him. Ho was a veteran bowler, and during his residence here he fil'ed'at different times the office ot 'president and honorary secretary of tho St. John's Bowling Club. Sincere sympathy will be felt throughout the community for Mrs Sampson and family.
