A DAY OF INSTR 3TION, CONSTRUCTION AND RECREATION:

Yesterday, the Boy Scouts attacked the town in detachments, selecting as their points d'appui the main manufacturing and industrial establishments—the Imlay Freezing 'Works, the Railway Workshops, Sash and ±voor Factory,, Wanganui' Collegiate School, and many other places where the knowledge gained will^be of educational value to them in after life. , . A swimming carnival, commencing at 12.30 p.m. is to be held to-day, and the public is' invited to attend. The following is the programme of events: — BOYS OVER 13 YEARS. I—ioo yards Swimming Championship. 2—50 ygrrds Swimming Championship. 3—200 yards Swimming Championship. ; 4—50 yards Breast Stroke do. 5—50 yards Trudge do. 6 —Long Dive. ~, . BOYS UNDER 13 YEARS. l-A-100 yards Swimming Championship. 2 —50 yards Swimming do. 3—50 yard 3 Breast Stroke, do. 4—50 yards Trudge do. s—Long Dive. OPEN EVENTS. I—High Dive. 2—Neat Dive. 3—'Life Saving. ; 4—Corfu Dive. The Commissioner desires to acknowledge, with thanks, the following gifts:— Cheque, 3 gns., Mr. James Watt; 1 fat sheep each, Mr. D.
