AUSTRALIAN REPATRIATION
COMMONWEALTH GOVERNMENT'S PROPOSALS.
MELBOURNE, January 23. At a conference of Commonwealth and "State Ministers, Mr Millen stated ■thait, to date, 70,000 men have reiturn:ed from the front. Of I<hese seven per vcen&.''expressed a desire to settla on the land. There were still 197,000. abroad, the great bulk of whom will return within twelve 'monIJhs. He expressed the opinion that Australia was ripe.'for,new rural industries. The Government was prepared to guarantee soldier seittiers in such industries, give :v minimum price for their produce, and provide the work necessary to handle fijhe prodiicfts. ' \ Mr Wailt announced thato the Government will provide the States with the money necessary for repatriation purposes,*at tttie ruling raite of interest. The Commonwealth proposes to use every means to stimulate new industries* and encourage the introdue'rion of capital from' abroad for developmy ruraTor secondary industries.
