WELLINGTON R.C. SUMMER MEETING.
(By "MULTIFORM.")
The summer meeting of the Wellington R.C. will be inaugurated at Trentham to-day, and, given fine weather, the representative racing body of. the Empire City should experience a record success. The cara is a good one, and there is nothing to' enter- a protest about with regard to the class engaged. A large Wan■ganui contingent is by this time either there or en route, and witli fine weather apparently-assured, the Club appears to have a favourable run to the post. Proceedings will commence with the Appentrice Handicap, in which nine useful hacks are engaged. With lOlbs less, Risingham beat a stronger field in the Tararua Handicap at the Club's last meeting, and he should have improved in. the interim. There are some smart youngsters engaged in the Nursery, and among them is Sun Dance, who showed the possession of great speed at Ellerslie. The other topweights are all fairly smart. The Anniversary Welter seems a very open race. Melee and Galore are :two very smart lightweights that can get the distance. No less than 26 figure in the Trial Plate, of seven furlongs, and the winner should pay a fair return. Melee, Courtfield, and Philomela should run -well if 3tarted. Recent form suggests that Mascot, Red Ribbon, and Heathercote should find places in the Wellington Cup. , Punka will be heavily backed on her southern form, and by latest charts, her stock is at a premium. Nobleman, on the strength of a strong trial before going down, v/ill carry the confidence of Rangitikei sportsmen, while Client, Kilmoon. Hewi Poto, and Rose Pink will not want for supporters. Mascot was. metaphorically [spealdng, "homeiuulried" when the j Whors arrived in ihp Auckland Cup, and she won just :i- easily on the third day. The vK-irht should not trouble her to-day. If only half the acceptors in tho Wellington 'stakes go to the post, there v/ill be some crowding. The champion, CUoaming, -will carry the bulk of the money, but anything may happen, in such a field. Surveyor, Fluoncy, Torfrcda, and Asisrinn are all smart. King's Armour and Arch Lassie read well in the Ruapehu Handicap, and in the Telegraph Handicap Silver Link, Nanna and Michaeia 3hould run Trell.
