A THOROUGH INQUIRY.

Sir.—Whilst disapproving of the action of the Deputy-.Mayor, and Cr W. S. Dustin in taking upon thenisolves the appointment of an outside commission to investigate the tramways trouble, and whilst very pleased to see that all the other Councillors had sufficient backbone to
"wash out" the attempt to delegate their responsibilities to a body of irresponsible citizens, I am equally pleased to learn that Cr Dustin endorses the principle of lull and impartial inquiry into matters of public interest. I notice by the published report that Cr Dustin expressed his strong desire as chairman of the Tramways Committee to have a thorough inquiry. Please note—a thorough inquiry. I understand that the ladies' committee responsible for the despatch of Christmas comforts to our soldiers at the Front are still far from satisfied hv the explanation which Mr Dustin has
