LETTER. FROM GEN GODLEY

WELLINGTON, Oct. 2
Sir James Allen has received a letter from Genera! Godley, dated Aug. Oth. General Gcdley states that the New Zealand Division had had practicall^ n° ifighting at all since Paaschendael^ hist October, and therefore is one of the _ strongest and fittest divisions in France in every way. He adds: "Now that, the tide has turned I hope to have the opportunity of using the New Zealanders in the pursuit of the Bosche. lam sorry the Divi-f-ion v. as not with me down in the Champagne. The only New Zealand representatives were a squadron of the Otago Mounted Rifles, n cyclist battalion and the N Z. members of my staff. The fighting recently became open warfare. Of o;io thin<£ you may bp sure— that, broadly speaking, everything connected wi'li the Expeditionary Force has gone extremely well, and we are quite satisfiel with all that has been done for us."
