1600 FEET ABOVE SEA LEVEL.

On Monday night a terrific gale swept over Okehu, and it is stated that it was almost impossible for a man to stand up against it.- This can easily be understood when it is stated that Waitahinga is 3500 feet above sea level, and is in quite an exposed position. When Mr. Staveley left yesterday all the telephone wires connecting Wanganui with Waitahinga had been blown down in consequence of the fierceness of the gale.
