SPORTING.
CHEISTCHURCH, October 30
Mascot, Matilda, and Exclusive have been scratched for all engagements at the Jockey Club's meeting.
NOTES BY 'MULTIFORM."
Colonel Soult s an unlikely starter in the N.A. Cup, as the Soult gelding will probably contest the Avonda'e Cup
When Croesus won the C.J.C. Stewards' Handicap in 1915 he carried B.j.'J (the same weight as he has to carry in this year's race), and ran the six furlongs in 1.12 1-5. I doubt whether this time will oe bettered this year, so that it only appears necessary for the ltoyal Fusilier gelding to be as nt as he was ohen.
The Coronet gelding, Astor, is reportecf to be galloping particularly well at Eilerslie. With 7.9 in the Flying at Avondale ojri Saturday he should De a hard proposition.
The hurdler Marconi has been negotiating the steeplechase fences at Ellerslie in approved style of late, and he should perform well when started be~ ; ,tween the flags. The Foidell representative, Client, will probably start a red-hot favourite in the N.Z. Cup. He is quoted at such a ridiculously low figure by tile "wooi'brokers,"- that it is safe to say he will pay 3, better price on the machine—"if."
sLast year Multiplication, 7.6, ran, second to Bimeter in the C.J.C. Stewards' Handicap. This year the Multilid gelding has 3lbs more to carry. The big Martian—Silkgown gelding, Johnny Walker, should strip in good form for the N.Z. Cup, as he has had a lengthy preparation. He ran nicely oato a Pl^ce • behind Impediment ana Bonnie Maid in the. Rimutaka Handicap at tihe : Wellington meeting. Brea as he is, he should stay, and there is a possibility of a surprise from this quarter;
Teka with a ?lb penalty, will carry 7.8 in the JS.Z. Cup. On Saturday next the V.R.C. Meeting opens at Flemington, when the champion colt Biplane will be given an opportunity to extinguish himself ik the V.R.C. Derby, for which he will start a very warm order. Marble Arch and Demosthenes have each four representatives in the Avondale Stakes, which this year looks like proving a very Informal affair. F. E. Jones has been engaged to ride £% £ aa nlev ge,ldinS Gazique, in the L.-J.L. Stewards' Handicap. The two-year-old colt by Maniapoto —Largesse, owned by Mr Peacock, of Waipukurau, and trained; by Atlas White, of Hastings, has been appropriately named Palm Oil.
