THE MARTON COUNCIL AFFAIR.

A SENSATION,

(From Our Travelling Reporter.) Quite a wild sensation vvas caused^ in the town to-day when the result of last night's meeting of the Borougn Council became known. The fact that on two important issues the Mayor could get no support from his Council, showed, that it yen Id be far better in the interests of the Borough if there was another Mayoral election. The decision of the .Council to administer the affairs of the borough will be watched with great interest, inasmuch as that the Marton Council has created something " brand new" in local government. Jn the telegraphed report ot the meeting appearing in yesterday's " Chriwiicle," ail "erroir aocuirred in transmission, the observations about the necessity for the propositions put forth by Cr. Miles, in the interests of smooth running, were made by Cr. Miles in his final reply, and not by the Mayolr, to whom the remarks :wero credited. It was quite obvious that the observations were credited to the wrong person. It is to be sincerely hoped that the affairs of the Borough will now proceed on good lines, ami with such a business-like Council as exists, there is no reason why the municipal wheels should! not run smoothly.
