At 10.7 o'clock last night a slight shock of earthquake was felt in Wanganui.

The Government poultry instructor, Mr A. li. Salisbury, will give a public address and demonstration to any interested poultry-keepers, at Mrs McKinnon's place at Gonville this afternoon.

A meeting of those interested in the Second Division will be held at the "Waverley Town Hall next Thursday evening," when addresses will be given by Messrs C. H. Burnett and Ross, of Wanganui.

A special church parade of all the Vvanganui Troops of the Dominion Boy Scouts is called for Snuday morning next at 10.15. Scouts will'parade at the Hospital corner, and inarch from there to the Smithfield Baptist Church, where the Rev. Matthews, late Commissioner for this district, will conduct the service.

The V.M.C.A. are meeting all trains with returning men, welcoming those for Wanganui, and offering to them the privileges of the Association, whilst those men for Hawera, New Plymouth, etc., are also welcomed and some travelling comforts given where needed. This work is greatly appreciated by the men, who say that they meet the "old Y.M." everywhere.

After three years with only certificates of merit, the Avenue School tins year proposes to revert to book prizes, and is organising, an entertainment next Thursday evening, Ist November, inthe Opera IJoase. Patrons are promised items by adults, by several children, and by the school band, and wo are assured "that there is a special treat in store from r, minstrel troupe now in training. The attention oi wool-growers is called to the meeting to be held at the A. and P. There should be a busy scene on the potato plantation at Kowhai Park this afternoon, as many volunteer workers have promised to attend with their hoes. The Wanganui. East ladies are providing tea, which will be served in Mrs Willis' beautiful grounds opposite the work. The Avenue School boys mustered up thirty willing hoers' on Thursday afternoon, but the rain stopped the work. The Gonville School is sending f i team for Monday afternoon, and the Collegiate School boys turn to on Wednesday afternoon. The Hurworth School boys are anxious to have another afternoon with the hoes.

A party of nine returned soldiers were expected to reach Wanganui from Auckland,on Thursday, and officially only one—Private lete —came home. Unofficially the others have arrived, they "dropped off the train either at ,Wanganui East or Fordell. A party of. Taranaki returned men also arrived in Wanganui on Thursday morning, and w-ere met by representatives of the Patriotic Society, Defence Office, and the citizens.
