AUCKLAND, .twjnst 10The severest gale for mny years was experienced from 5 a.m. till midnight yesterday. Great damage was done to launches and ashore. One farmer estimates his loss at a thousand pounds. The Russell Public Hall was deiDolished. At Whangamumu Mr Cook had a trying time saving his whaleship. Considerable damage ,\vas done to factories, wharves, and jetties, and a considerable quantity of whale oil was lost.
