"SUNDAY."

OPERA HOUSE

At the Opera House next Wednesday night the Royal Dramatic and Comedy Company will- 'present the stirring com-edy-ctrama "Sunday."' It is"-a.tar cry from the days of Queen Elizabeth to a Nevada mining camp,, but the stage makes the- transition tasy and delightful when it is to. follow a story such a:i that told in Mr Thomas Raceward's "Su^lay,': a tale dealing with the Western America that Uret Harte and his imitators .have made lamiliar.and'^beloved: where men, under such. uncouthness of majuner and roughness of speech, ring truest. To four such men, whose Christian names only survive — " Jacky," "Davy," "Lively" and "Tow-s*)r"—-yet rejoicing in the generic name of "The Boys," tliere comes a precious charge in th© girl "Sunday," a child of '■ an..old mate who committed her lo theii- charge. Loyally-have they discharged their trust, and jealously guarded their ward up to the time the story opens. And then comes the time when they are called upon to part witn her for her own good, so that she may be given into the. care of the Sisters, who fcave manifested a care for the waif rapidly growing to womanhood' amid her rough surroundings. s The resolution is hard to come to, but softened .by" the knowledge that it .is for "Sunday's" good. The new principal of the company, Miss Madge Surtees, will make a first appearance here as "Sunday," and this is. what a Wellington contemporary says of Miss Sill-tees', interpretation of the titlerole: "To say that she is a better 'Sunday than Miss Tittel Brune might at first, seem a rather extravagant statement, but a careful analysis of her work must lead to that conclusion Viewed from any angl 3 , it was a fine achievement." The box plans for "Sun. day will be opened at H. I. Jones and Son s on Saturday morning.
