CONFERENCE OF MILLERS APPROVES BOARD OF TRADE'S
SCHEME
i; (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 20. A conference between the Board cf Trade and representatives of flourrn.il lers from different parts of the Dominion was held to-day to discuss problems connected with the production of wheat and the manufacture of flour. The proceedings were not open to the press. The following motion was unanimously adopted: "That the efforts of the Government to encourage wheatgrowing be welcomed, and that ths millers present approve of the outlines of the Board of Trade's scheme."
The Board's scheme is, briefly, to fix the price for wheat, flour and bread during the period of the war and for on© season after.
The Hon. Mac Donald telegraphed regretting his inability to attend the conference, owing to the heavy pressure of biisiness in Wellington in connection with wool.
A sub-committee appointed by the millers, after considerable deliberation, formulated certain proposal? which. Avere not divulged to the press, in which a\series of prices for flour and bread were set out. based upon a sliding scale of wheat prices. Mr W. G. McDonald, of the, Board of Trade, 'stated that a« yet nothing definite at all had been done. The Board would continue its investigations next day. At present it would be unwise to publish the suggestions made by the millers' sub-com-mittee. The Board hoped to have its report and recommendations ready by about the end of the week.
