Sneak thieves who specialise in dothes-Une robbery have been busy in Wangantii recently. One resident in the vicinity of Guyton St. had the clothes-line stripped of valuable clothes a few nights ago. The thieves very considerately left the wire. Having heard of the intention of the citizens of Wanganui to demonstrate in some slight manner their appreciation of the hospitality extended to New Zealand soldiers in Egypt by Madame Fierz, of Cairo, now on a prolonged visit to the Dominion, the Consul for Belgium, at Auckland, yesterday telegraphed to Mr T. B. Williams, conveying his good wishes for this afternoon's function and concluding : "Am • heartily in sympathy with every expression of gratitude towards one who has been such a true friend in time .of need." This afternoon's proceedings at the Druids' Hall commence at 2-30 o'clock, and a most pleasant afternoon is assured for all fl rho attend. AH citizens are cordially invited, but it is particularly desired that those having sons or other relatives en active service should make a point of being present.
