SHACKLETON RELIEF EXPEDITION.
LONDON, July 21.
On receipt of the New Zealand Government's cable stating that repairs to : the i;Auroraii would occupy at least 60 days owing to It^bour uncertainty, the British Government decided, owing lo an urgent cable from Sir Ernest Shack-" leton, to dispatch a vessel from England, though the jonrney from Plymouth to Elephant Island will be twice the distance from Wellington. The Hudson's Bay Company, owners of the whaler Discovery, used in the 1910- expedition, thereupon loaned the vessel for the relief. She leaves in a few days, and will be towed most of the journey to save time. It is considered the effort Sir Ernest Shackleton is now making has little chance of success.
