THE TIVOLI FOLLIES.
Thoatre-goers will recollect what a furore of enthusiasm the Tivoli Follies caused when in New Zealand last year, and now they are to return to Wanganui, opening at the Opera House on Friday next, under the personal direction of Hugh D. Mclntosh. The Follies this year is a-much, improved combination compared with the Follies of 1915. Headed by Miss Vera Pearce, who has recently won beauty competitions in Melbourne and Sydney, the Follies embrace such artistes ag Miss .Thelma Raye, the popular Jack Cannot, and a famous trio of comedians, including George Welch, Walter Neems (black-faced, humorist), Billy Rego (the diminutive one), Jean Keith (the classical child dancer), the Brusselis Concert .Party, and Ella Caspers; and English and American vaudeville acts occupy the first portion of the programme. The box plan will open at H. I. Jones and Son's on Monday morning.
The members of the Queen Alexandra Regimental Band, with their conductor (Lieutenant Buckley), paid a special proposition visit to the General Hospital last night, and successfully entertained the inmates with some choice selections from their extensive repertoire. The programme included . March, "Spirit of Napoleon" (Faure) ; selection, "L'Amour au Village; cornet solo, "Australia" (Lithgow), soloist, Mr Walter Shepley; selection, "Poet and Peasant (Suppe); cornet duet, " Ida and Dot" (F. H. Losey), soloists, Messrs Buckley and Shepley (special encore number); "Alpim Warblers" (Rimmer); selection, "Russian Overture" (SvoboJa) ; grand selection. "William Tell" (Rossini); march, "Conqueror" (Moorehouse). The special thanks of the Band are.due to Mr. Todmap, hospital electrician, for additional lighting, and to Mr. Harry Thayer, carrier, for cartage of material.
