THE GRAND THEATRE.
"THE FLASH OF AN EMERALD."
In "The Flash of an Emerald," the new star at the Grand, Robert Warwick has to work very hard, tor the character he portrays is singularly complex in its villainies. As Lucius Waldeck he is urbane, polished, insinuating but above all vultunsh, preynig on' his friends and diverting suspicion by his " gentlemanly graciousness. With one hand he would caress a woman and with the other he would rob her of her jewels.- In this story, he sees a very valuable emerald in the possession of a lady who is going on a pilgrimage to the shrine of St. Anne de Beaupre with her sick child. He chloroforms the lady. the. maid, and the child, and secures the emerald. He poses as a Russian revolutionary, falls in love with a girl, to whom he presents the emerald, this leading to his undoing. Ultimately. he commits suicide. The supporting pictures are all good, and this line programme should draw crowded houses to-night and to-mor-row.
