Mr and Mrs. G, W. Hean left fey yesterday's mid-day mail en route for Sydney. They wall probably spend two or three months in Australia. A private cable received in town states that the Rev J. A. Luxford has been appointed principal chaplain on the staff in London until the end of the war. He will reside at "Waltjn-oi-Thames. Mrs Burniston, of Clifton Boardinghouse, Wangantu, received cabled ad vice yesterday that Pte. Frank Drew died.of wounds on June 19th. Ttht deceased wife well known in Wanganui. i Captain Bert Cooper, who has been reported killed, was the youngest son of Mr Justice Cooper. He was educated at Auckland and Lincoln College, and recently left New Zealand to join the British Army Flying Corps, Captam Cooper rapidly rose in his pro*: fession, and was recognised as an abU = and intrepid aviator. Before leaving 1 the Dominion, Captain Cooper was en-!1 gaged in farming with Mr C. H. Burnett at Fordell for some time, and ins many friende in this district will lament the death of a brave and fearless soldier, who. has given his life for his country. Mr Justice Cooper and his family will receive a ominion-wide eympathy in their bereavement.
