PROVISION FOR NINE

October ,£; The Education Amendment Bill ■!»- troduced in the Home of Representatives this morning provides for the establishment of nine education dis-/ tricts. The chief towns of five of such. , districts are to be in the ISorJi i&-~ land and the chief towns of the remaining four districts are to be m the South Island. The boundaries of th^. districts are to be determined by the . general council-of education esUbr. lished under the principal act. .;ii», new districts should come into exist- _ f ence on the same dates as ti""^ 011. which the new. boards come into office. This provision remedies an unsatistaor tory position in the principal act w&ica provides for the coming into existence.: 'of the new districts on the Ist Janur ary 191t>, and the continuance m «-. ,fice of the existing education boards until the second "Wednesday, in August, 1936, when the new boards are elected. This would involve a continuance" of , thirteen boards with jurisdiction-over nine districts. Provision is'alao made that the first division of the usual areas of districts into wards shall v* made by the Minister. -
