WANGANUI COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Wanganui County Council met yesterday. Present: Messrs A. Robinson (chairman), Bamber, Ross, Collier, Collins, Hine, D. Mackintosh, A. Mackintosh, and O'Neil.
Goat's Rue.:—The Board of Agriculture notified that Goat's Rue had been added to the third schedule of the Noxious Weeds Act.
Grass Seed Campaign.—lt was decided to approve of the school children's campaign for gathering grass seed on the County roads. The effect of the resolution will be that contracts will not be let for cutting grass seed on the roads.
Parapara Road.—Mr. R. Baddeiey asked that the upper portion of t&e Parapara Road should be put in order, and that several dangerous corners should be removed. —The engineer was instructed to report.
Estimates. —The engineer was instructed to form an estimate of the cost of forming the No. 3 Line from the present metalled end to the end of the 'Line, also for re-metalling the Line between the 9-mile and 11----mile pegs.
A new bridge.—The engineer was instructed to prepare plans and specifications for a Wangaehu Bridge (Fantee's). _
The engineer (Mr. R. R. Dawson) reported that on the Parapara road metal repairs to the extent of 100 cubic yards had been effected at Wharekiri and Lake Hills.. The river bank road has been scarified and rolled from the concrete bridge to> Upokongaro. After the 4th inst the Waitotara County Council's roller will be available for the work. Proposals have been submitted to the. Public Works Department in connection with a grant and authority to metal approximately 2 miles 70 chains of the Parapara road. Tenders for the work will be received at the next general meeting of the Council. X Approximately 300 cubic yards of metal will be required for the road from Mangawhero Bridge. The roau also wants metalling near the 18-mile peg. The wing of the bridge at the 19-mile peg has been removed. About 20 chains of new formation work on the Te Rimu road have been completed. Repair work has been carried out in the Kaukatea Riding. On the No. 3 Line, poplar trees planted on the sides of the road may prove detrimental to it, also on the Long Acre road. An inspection was made of Wllntoria Road, where a building, fences and hedges are outside the legalised line. - <; The re-tarring of 47;cna$'s!i>f rc<j.a at Putlki is estimated at £120 3s. The road at Matarawa requires some repairs, and the Union Line requires metalling from the No. 2 Line southwardly'":' ' ri'' The windmill at Fordell is in a very dilapidated state.
