CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 14. The weather was beautifully fine for the concluding day of the Grand National Meeting, and there was again a capital attendance. The tote investments for the day were £49,359, as against £38,672 10s on the corresponding day last .year. For the meeting the totial was £134,586, as against £111,017 last year, an increase of £23,569. Details :
Aylesbury Steeplechase (about two miles and a half) : 8 Oratonu (J. Bovd) 1; 13 Grey Renown, 2. 4 Rufus,-3." 1 Captain Macky, 2 Nimblefoot, 1 Stockade, 6 Fritz, 5 Agatha Green, 2 Phamos, 9. Fairy Finn, 11 Royal Guard, also started. Won by two lengths, with Rufus about 'a. hundred yards away, in third position,, and Fritz the only other to finish. Time smm 6 3r5 sees.
Heiathcote Handicap (7 furlongs) : 2 Kaimanohe (W. Adams) 1; 10 Me.ltchikoff, 2; 3 Slogan, 3. Also started: 4 Crown Pearl, 1 Banksia, 6 Ruapani, 11 Lady Louisa, 13 Master Lupin, 7 Fortify, 8 Birkline, 9 Nicomar, 14 Fender, 12 Scotch Melody, 5 Black Heart, 15 Wild Pilgrim, 16 Jeannot. A good race, won by a neck. Slogan, who was finishing well, was a similar distance away third. Time Imm 2Si| sees.
Styx Hurdle Race Handicap (once round and a distance) : 1 Art (A. J. McFlynn), 1; 5 Silver Shield, 2; 7 Lord Frederick, 3. Also started : 3 Ruatangata, 4 Caher Davon, 6 Merrie Valet, 2 ♦Scrutineer. Won nicely by about two lengths. Time 3 mm 1 1-5 sees. Sydenham Hurdles Race (one mile and thretr-quarters) : 3 Diavolo (Jer. O'Connell) 1; 4 St. Elmn, 2; 6 Moddite, 3. Also started : 2 Leonta, 1 Awahou, 5 Kilmeny, 7 Styrax, 8 Sam Pain1, 10 Commoticn, il Braeburn, 9 Vascular. Won by a couple of lengths. Moddite wias a head behind St. Elmn and then came Braeburn, Styrax and Kilmeny. Awaihou fell at the last fence. Time 3 mm 16 sees.
Lincoln Steeplechase Handicap (almost three miles) ; 2 Morning (A. Julian), 1; 1 Tim Doolan, 2; 4 Bonny, 3. Also started : 3 Ngatoa, 8 Golden Glow," 5 Fagot, 6 Naupata, 9 The- Brewer, 7 Kirn, 10 Golden Grape. The race was between Morning and Tim Doolan, and going to the kennel double the second time the favourite looked like overhauling the Hawke's Bay representative. The latter, however, had a lot in hand, and went on {again to win by four lengths, about a hundred yards separating the second and third, with Ngatoro fourth. Fagot and The Brewer ran off at the kennels and Golden. Glow was pulled up. Time 6 mm. Redcliffs Handicap (seven furlongs) : 2 Prince Laddo (S. Reed;, lj 6 Potentiality. 2 ; 1 Baiunakaka, 3. Also ran : 4. Tokl, 7 Cervulus, 3 Maltegarde, 14 Veritas, 5 Bodenham, 8 Free, 13 Pear},, Form, 9 Countess Tolstoi, 10 Listen, 11 British Rose, 16 CXga Carlovna, 15 Glenyar. A good race, won by half a length. Time 1 mm 29 1-5 sees. Selwyn Handicap (six furlongs) :— 2 Encore (J. O'Shea), 1; 6 Fahrikoff, 2; 10 Moonglow, 8. Also started : 5 Pride of Clutha, 1 Glenroy, 8 'Ceviotdaile, 3 Mandoline, 11 Multum in Parvo, 12 Scorch, 9 sSveaborg, 4 Melford, Lion and 13 Medallist.
Hunters' Plate (a mile and a half) : I Crib (S. Barry), lj ?. Ornioloid, 2; 5 Kingsway, 3. A'sc- started: 4 Prairie Fire, 8 Carilla, 3 Dear Annie, 7 Flight, 9 Traditor, 6 Master Field, 10 Mac, II Glenwye. Time 2 mm 46 2-5 sees.
