DELHI, August 14
The Government of India has issued a .statement as to the-action taken with regard to Germans and Austrians m India. On the outbreak of the war enemy subjects were registered, disarmed, and placed under police surveillance. Later special powers were taken prohibiting and regulating the entry, departure, and residence. Those of military age are interned at Ahmednagar, Bombay, numbering 1143. The rest have been placed under supervision. Special consideration has been shown to missionaries, who, if of good behaviour, have been allowed to remain at their posts on parole, vouched for by responsible- Britishers. Individuals of objectionable conduct have been concentrated at convenient centres, where supervision is easier. There are 1232 in civil charge, of which 489 are missionaries and their families. It has now been decided to repatriate all women, children and men not of military age, which-\vilj_ be carried out as soon as arrangements have been completed. Prior to the war some missions received Government assista-iroej- which has been discontinued. The question of stricter control of naturalised subjects is under consideration..
