COLONIAL MEAT
ACTION BY THE BRITISH GOV-
ERNMENT
EXPLAINED IN THE COMMONS
(United Press Association. —Copyrigfhfc.) Received 8.35 p.m., May 5. LONDON, May 5.
In the House of Commons, Mr Runoiiunn, replying to Mr Thorne, said the price of New Zealand md New South Wales meat was" fixed by the local Governments. The Imperial Government had requisitioned the whole of the Australian and New "Zealand meat supplies, and proposed to place the stirplus over the army's requirements upon the market for civilians. They had asked Messrs Mackenzie, Robinson, and Montague Nelson to report on the best method of placing it on the market and the conditions of sale, in order to present an undue increase in the price such as- might arise through shortage of supplies. The Government was now considering their report. Their expert knowledge was of much advantage to the national interests.
