AN EXTRAORDINARY EFFU-

SION

(Times and Sydney Sun Cables.) Received 5.5 p.m., May 3. LONDON, May 3. A. Constantinople official report states that during the first battle at Kum Kale the Turks did not fire a single shot, but repulsed the eniemy simply with the bayonet. Turkish batteries damaged the French cruiser Jeanne D'Arc, which retired ablaze. They also sank an English destroyer and damaged the warships Majestic, Triumph and Vengeance, also sixteen armoured warships and many destroyers. They fired 30,000 shells, but only a few soldiers were slightly injured. Turkish shells hit two transports, one of which ran ashore. The Turks sank several sailing boats filled with troops, which a destroyer was lowing.
