AUSTRALIAN PRESS VIEWS.
fO-iited Press Association—Couyrijzht.) SYDNEY, September 1.
The " Telegraph" says that the seizure of Samoa is of much importance to Australia not only on account of the actual transfer to the British flag,-but because it suggests the inevitable capture" of all German possessions in* the Pacific. The "Telegraph" points out that New Zealand's claim to Samoa., made thirty years ago, has at last matured, and it seems not unlikely that Australia's claim to the Avhole of New Guinea, excepting the Dutch portion, will foe similarly ratified in the near future.
The "Herald," commenting upon the taking of Samoa, says that the loss of her; possessions in Samoa, is a significant indication of the inevitable effect of this war on German trade. Already the steady and unremitting labour of two ■generations has been destroyed. The paper addsthat, by clearing'tlie seas of German ships, and taking German possessions, the overseas Dominions have thoroughly vindicated their claim that each part of the Empire should cultivate its own garden for the 'future. They have provided themselves -with new markets in regions which have been closed to them by the development of the German policy. -.-''.
