IMPORTANT MATTERS DISCUSSED
(Per Press Assoication.) ■WELLINGTON', July 16. At t'o.o Racing Conference the chairman, Sir Geo. Clifford, said that lie had had a good deal of correspondence with the Railway Department on tbe question of the carriage of racelioTses, and he wias pleased to say considerable improvement (had been effected. Mr Aym»es (Tiiniaru) pie'titioned Conference for a re-opening of the Oxenhope case, wherein he and the horse Oxenhope were disqualified for two years for deliberately polling. The Conference decided .that tlie petition be no* acceded' 10. The following were among the. chief remits discussed :— j Ag there was no fixed quorum for ! meetings of district committees, Mr P.. Miller, on behalf of tlie Dunedin Jockey -Club, moved that five- should.1 form a quorum. This was agreed to. tions, and that the prizes are trophies and not money. Mr Herries movedl that the word "hunt" he omitted, nndi this vras carried. With the object of being able to Calculate fhe jockeys' fees Tn the case of a dead heat, Mr Hunter moved that th*> meaning of the word "winning" should include a dead heat- for first pla©c. After discussion, during which it was stated the matter was 'already defined in the rules, the motion was withdrawn. On behalf of the Canterbury Jockey Club, Mr Buckley moved that an alteration be made to rule 6, part 4, by the substitution of the following words for others: "The programme of every meeting from September Ist to June Gth (inclusive) shall include two flat races per ■diem of not less than one mile; the .programme of every meeting from June 7th to August 31st (inclusive) shall include ■at least one maiden or hack steeplechase, and if such programme Includes ones or more flat races tJier© shall bo on© flat race of yob less than one anile and aquarteiv"1 This was lost. The Hawke's Bay Jockey Club moved to have ihe amount won by a horse before 'he. ,'s bauTied from hack phassiea raised to oiwe race of £150 or in the aggregate £400. Mr Allison moved, .that £300 be substituted for £400, but this iras lost after further discussion. The motion, was adopted unanimously. Mr Hunter moved: " Any person. w3io shall use for his horse a name forbidden />y these rules or which ha>s been forlr.ially disapproved by the President^ or which has licit prior to stsurtinig been registered with the Secretary of the Conference, shall !be fined not less than 1 soy., nor more than 20 so vs., by the President, and the fine shall be paid to the Secretary of the Conference, andl if unpaid shall be deemed aiTears.*' Tha motion wais carried. It was agreed on the. motion of the President that in case of domestic bereavement, an owner shall, if previously authorised in ■writinfr by the President, bo allowed "to run his horse in the name of another person for a period not exceeding four months.
