Norman Mcßean, in a letter confessing the murder of Gertie McAlister, stated: " The girl had paid a terrible price, i. will pay mine. Ido not want an innocent person blamed. I offered Miss McA-lister private marriage, but sho de3ived open reparation. T.Jio first shot, killed her." (A previous cable reported that a girl named Gertie McAlister had been found mysteriously shot. Her father gave evidence that she had no lovers and no enemies A witness (Mcßean) stated that on the day of the tragedy he s£fw deceased alive at 6-30. Two hours later he head two shots, rushed to the kitchen, and found the girl" lying on the floor dead. On Friday Hectqr Mcßeun, aged 35 the son of the owner of the station, shot himself with a pea-rifle, the body fa-lling into a river. He left the confession referred to above.)
