WANGANUI
EDUCATION BOARD.
Following is a draft of a circular wh;ch is to be sent by the Wanganui Board of Education to all settlers, factory managers and proprietors in the Northern ..District. Tine peopie have failed to respond to an invitation to a conference to consider collective and the business had accordingly to be approached by another avenue. An Appeal to the Farmers and Prqr pnecors of Dairy Factories in South Taranaki. I wish' respectfully to bring under your notice a matter that intimately concerns you and everyone directly or indirectly (connected with agriculture in. Soutii Taranaki. 1 refer to the utilisation of the services of Mr R. Browne, Agricultural Expert for the Wanganui Education Board in the Northern District. Statement of the Case —Mr Browne at present occupies a tripls position, viz., Director of Technical Education for the Northern District, Director of the Hawera Technical 'School, and Supervisor Lf School Agriculture. With ample knowledge of Mr Browne's qualifications' the Board is convinced that his services should be devoted to the cause of agriculture exclusively. Preventing this there is just one little but effective barrier: finance. For the payment of instructors' services fixed amounts are received from the Education Department, amounts utterly inadequate to pay separate men for the separate offices.
What can and should be done. —If MiBrowne were free to take- agriculture only, he could give throughout the South Taranaki district instruction on the following lines:—
