'The'single-cask of water Avas soon exhausted, but rain fell, enabling the men to avosd thirst/ Hunger, however, doininated them, th© only food being % sfliuill supply of hard tack. Efforts were iuade to attract the attontion of steamers, but several passed, not'*.noticing them. One after another died, some becoming " insane through drinking salt water. Their comrades cast the bodies into the sea with their littlo remaining strength. Some badly collapsed after the first day's exposure. The four rescued were found huddled iv tho bottom of the boat, and unable to talk. An extraordinary feature of the search is..that five trans-Atlantic liners were searching several"days fruitlessly.
