CHRISTCHURCH, April 13. - The Autumn meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club was opened to-day in splendid weather. The tote handled £35,684 10s, as against £31,576 last year. Results:—
Kildare Hurdle Handicap (2 miles). — 2 Kilmeny (L. Hagerty) 1, 3 Daylight Bill 2; 1 Cornelian 3. Also started: 4 Goldseeker. Time 3mins. 42 l-ssecs.
Champagne Stakes (six furlongs).— 4 G. D. Greenwood's Rencontre (W. Young) 1, 3 Sir Geo. Clifford's Bold Stroke (B. Deeley) 2, 6 Mr. Highden's iPariform (A. Oliver) 3. Also started: 9 Rmgform, 1 Downham. 5 Hyettus, 10 Marsa, 7 Angelina, 8 Honesty, 2 Moulu
Rencontre and Bold Stroke were showing the way when tihe course proper was reached and raced together to the distance, where the former drew away and won by half a length. Won under a strong pull by two lengths and a half. Time, Imin. 40 2-ssecs. Great Easter Handicap (1300 aove,,/ furlongs).—l 4j. R. Hart's Chudic (G. Clarke) 1, 1 Mr. Highden's Expect 2, 9 Silver Shield (C. Carmont) 3. Also started: 4 Masterpiece, 4 Autumnus, 2 Emperador, 3 Warstep, 13 Rinaldo, 12 Specialform, 10 Obsono, 15 Gapon, 7 : First Glance, 6 Sauei. 8 Peg, 5 Reval, 11 i Respond. As the field turned into the j straight, Peg on the outside, had a slight advantage from Sauci, Chudic, Silver Shield and Revai. A little fur-, ther on, the field closed up and Sauci, ] Reval and Peg dropped back, while Chudic a.nd Expect took charge. In- ; side the distance Expect, who had a lot • of ground to make up, came with a great ! run, but Chudic finished gamely .and; won a good race by a head. Silver j Shield was half a length away third, with Rinaldo three-quarters of a length ■ further back fourth. Time, Imin. 23 4-ssecs. Russley Plate (five furlongs).— 1 Wisebird (B. Deeley) 1, 8 Findhorn 2, 5 Bee 3. Also ran: 4 Cortes^ 2La Favourita, 2 Marceline, 3 Ramulus, 3 Fastradi, 1 Wharfinger, 6 Purseform, 9 Firegod, lfi Skene Dhu, 12 Merry Guest, ri'Signorile; 7 Atheldana. La Fayourita and Marceline, Camulus and Fastradi, and Wharfinger and Wisebird were coupled on the tote. Time., Imin. 0 4-5 j sees. : I
. Sockburn Handicap (1£ mile).—l Kooya (W. Bell) 1/ 2 Glenfinnan 2, 3 Thrax 3. Also started: 4,The Cornet, 5 Lady Marciaj 6 Joan. Won comfortably by a length and a half, Thrax a length away third. . Then came Joan, and Lady Marcia. Time, 2.4 1-osec.
Gimcrack Handicap (six furlongs).— 7 Vanquish 1, 8 Judith 2, 1 Vanna 3. Also started: 4 Historiette, 9 Forest Belle, 2 Madama. 6 Gregory 1 Hops, 10 Owhetoro, 11 Trireme, 3 Bonn© Bouche, o Andrea, 12 Mezzo, Miss Terry. Pukerau; Hops and Vanna were bracketed. Won nicely by 2£ lengths. Time, 1.12 3-ssecs.
Courtenay Handicap Welter (1 m.) — 4 Bertrada (A Oliver) 1, 2 Canute 2, 1 Glenfinnan 3. Also ran: 6 Gnome, 8 Troon, 9 Con the Shaughran,- 5 Glenowl, 7 Teviotdale, 3 Sunbeam. Won in nice style by a head, with Glenfinnan half a length away third. Sunbeam was .a- length back fourth. Time, 1.41 2-5.
