JLe Panno became the fiance of Guisseppina Mutti, at Milan, aged twenty. He represented himself to be the heir to a colossal fortune. He said he urgently needed £4000 and induced her to simulate a burglary of the family palaca and hand him all her mother's and her jewellery and sign bills of exchange. The family redeemed the jewellery for £4000 to hush up the scandal. Many pawn tickets were found on Le* Panno, being the proceeds of jewellery crobDeries.
