GOLLEGIATE SCHOOL SPORTS.

SUCCESSFUL MEETING

The Wanganui Collegiate School Athletic Sports were held yesterday on the School grounds. In the morning the weather was unfavourable, but in the afternoon the rain cleared off and bright sunshine prevailed. The grounds were in splendid condition. The attendance was large, being only previously surpassed by the crowd which gathered at the 1909 meeting, when Mr. Empson took his departure from the school. At yesterday's meeting there were over 15 0 Old Boys in attendance, and these gentlemen greatly added to the success of the occasion. Among those present were a large number of parents, some of whom had come from a long distance. Mr. Hugh Latter, the new headmaster, was present. There, were large entries in all the events. Over sixty took part in the. Old Boys' race, while in the half-mile handicap, 203 entries were registered. Some fast times and distances were recorded, and the standard was several times beaten. The school records were frequently closely challenged. In the 100 yards (under 13) Abraham beat the record fpv the school. On most events. N. H. D'Arcy, of Wanganui, won the Senior Challenge Cup for the greatest number of points. The Jun- | ior Challenge Cup, for the greatest i number of points in five junior events (/was awarded to J. P. Stewart, of Wanganui. The half-mile open and i steeplechase will be run to-day, on J Thursday, and on Saturday respecj tively.
