Dr. and Mrs. Biddell, of Hawke's Bay, are at present on a visit to Wanganui.

The Hon. Dr. Poanare came in tor a. good deal of eulogy at a big meeting of natives at Waitotara on Sunday, and (writes our travelling a*eporter) it was generally conceded that he had done more in Parliament fox the natives than any previous member. It was unanimously decided to support his candidature at the next election, and in this, the meeting is acting in unanimity with (Maori people between Waitotara and White Cliffs.

The Government lias appointed Mr. Henry Jonathan Middleton a member of the Land Board of the land district of Southland.

Mrs Gordon F. Bridges and children, t>f Wanganui East, left by the Maunganui last Thursday en "route for Melbourne, where they will spend an extended holiday. They v. i-re accompanied by Mrs Bridges' brothers, Messrs A. and J.. Quinlan.

Mr iCaimillo IMartinengo>, fcrJio has succeeded QVtr Ben Brittain as manager of His Majesty's Theatre, arrived in town on Saturday afternoon. Mr Martinengo belongs to the well known family of that name who are so well known to theatre-goers throughout Australasia as members of the Brescians. He has had considerable experience in England and Europe as well as in New Zealand, where he has (managed several wellknown theatres. In welcoming Mr /Miartinengo to Wanganui we hope Ms sojourn will be pleasant and profitable.
