MR. FRED PIRANI UNANIMOUSLY

CHOSEN.

At a largely attended and thoroughly representative meeting of the combined local branches of the N.Z. Political Reform League, held yesterday afternoon, a cordial and unanimous invitation was extended to Mr. Fred Pirani, Chairman of the Wanganui Education Board, to contest the Wanganui seat in the interests of the party. Mr. Pirani mii timated his acceptance of the invita- , tion, and in the course of a brief ad- [ dress clearly and concisely outlined his political position. He explained his l attitude in regard to the outstanding i questions of the day, and proclaimed himself now, as he had been for years, a staunch 7 supporter of the Reform r; Party and the Massey Government. He had, he said, been very intimately associated with Wanganui for many years. It was here, thirty-seven years ago, that he had served his time as an. apprentice, and in the subsequent years his interest in the town and district had been preserved and strengthened by reason of his official connection with the Education Board. Mr. Pirani concluded by fisajdag thatrhe was as proud to receive " thfejittfitatijin as he would be to win jthe^seatjTifit should prove his good for- | funje^to ;be ■able'to do so. He appre^ ciawd-the confidence placed in him, and ihs~oould assure them that no effort on his par,t would^lje^ "spared to achieve a victory for the forces which stood on the side of law and order and good government.
