During th© whole of the evening the stall-holders and their assistants were kept busily engaged. The Jirip Round the World" was a comical attraction. •Other entertainments were well patronised. The Queen Alexandra's Band and the Maoris provided excellent entertainment during the evening. APPRECIATION. At the conclusion of the evening's entertainments and just before the majority of those present began to leave the grounds, Mr W. A. Veitch, M.P., iwho had with him on the platform the Queen of the Carnival, spoke in appreciation of the efforts exerted that day. He said that Mrs McGregor had commanded him to' express' her appreciation of the honour that had been conferred upon her—an honour which was not so much a personal one, as an expression of appreciation, sympathy and good-fellowship towards her race. The people of Wanganui have not forgotten, Mr Veitch said, and iwooid not forget, the act of self-sacrifice of certain Natives at Moutoa . .Island, which saved Wanganui from a great catastrophe. From that day to this, the Natives and Europeans had worked together in unity and concord. Mrs McGregor, the speaker continued, was deeply moved by the kindness 'and Ircwiiour rfchat hadi 'been shown towards her. Mrs. McGregor hadl nominated, not out of nersonal interest, but for the good of Wanganui. She paid a tribute to the sportsmanlike manner in which the maids of honour had acted. If she could be of service again, she would be only pleased. Three hearty cheers were given for the Queen. THE ORGANISERS The success of the Carnival was in a very large measure due to the organisation ability of Mr. W. H. Gibson, the hon. secretary, and Mrs. Suisted. the ladies' hon. secretary. Both worked like Trojans, and for weeks past have been unremitting in their efforts to. carry out the vast amount of preparatory work such as was entailed in the Carnival. To th**m and to the Carnival Executive, and the large band cf voluntary assistants members and supportens of the Association, all of whom worked splendidly in furthering the gTeat object of the Carnival, is all credit due for the great success achieved. Mr Cyril Goldsbury, as assistant secretary, was busiily employed. The secretary greatly appreciated the efforts of those in charge of the electric lighting installation, who worked hard from Monday morning until Saturday. On Friday morning 'Messrs Gheal and McCune started work, and worked on to Saturday night without taking a minute off for sleep on Friday night. They worked for 39 hours on end: Mr Harman did splendid work in organising the motor cycle races. The prizes amounting to £33 were all collected by him in donations. The secretary desires to thank Misses Cowley and Vera Bailey for their1 assistance in his office at the racecourse all day on Saturday. Mrs. Suisted wishes to publicly thank Mr. W. S. Dustin, whose valuable services, placed at the disposal of the ladies' committee, were available all diay. Mrs Suisted also wishes to thank all the ladies, who, she says, worked like Trojans.
