BLUEJACKETS SAVE MANY

ROME, March 20. The steamer carried eighty passengers, mostly women and children. The torpedoer was going at full speed when she struck the steamer, which sank in a minute. The majority of those on board were sheltering in the saloon owing to the cold, and few had time to escape, Italian and German bluejackets saved many. Lieutenant Bossi was endeavouring to save a woman, but many vicvtims clung to his neck, and he was drowned. The city is in mourning, and the theatres nnd restaurants are closed.
