OBSTRUCTING THE TRAFFIC.
Tingo Hawena was also charged with remaining upon the footpath about the corner of Ridgway Street and Victoria Avenue after being requested to move on.
In reference to this case, the Magistrate sa-id' it was high time that a prosecution had taken place, and that the police had bestirred themselves. There was no other town in the Dominion wihere there was so much disregard for the observance of the rules of the road. The traffic was systematically blocked in the Avenue and at the Ridgway St. corner on many nights, and on last Saturday night it was with the greatest difficulty that pedestrians could walk upon the footpath near the Post Office. He hoped that the police in future would pay special regard to people who lolled about and made themselves a nuisance to the travelling public in the main thoroughfares. The case against Tairanaki on a similar charge was dismissed.
