GISBORNE, March 9

At yesterday's session of the W.C.T.U. Convention, Dr Elizabeth Gunn, Superintendent of the Department of Social Purity, gave a most instructive address on " Purity arsd moral education in indifv/idual, social and national life." The following resolutions were carried : " This Convention expresses its satisfaction with the decision of the Christcihurch Hospital Board to make provision for inexpensive and easily accessible medical treatment, without registration or publicity, for all sufferers from venereal diseases, and further, the Convention urges all hospital boards to follow the same course. This Convention also declares that any attempt to legalise the social evil by regulation will be strenuously opposed. The regulation system is condemned as being wrong in principle and a failure in practice. Regulation increases and fails to reduce disease. It tends to corrupt th>e younjx and to demoralise tbe police charged with its (administration; that a vote of thanks bo accorded to Dr Fenwiok for his- action in moving the Hospital Kr&vd to adopt rnrvtsurois for the 7'olief of sufferers fro~n voiorn.n] diseases."
