ROYAL;ARTILLERY BAND

TO-MORROW'S CONCERT

The concert to be given to-morrow -evening in His Majesty's Theatre will -be the only opportunity the people of Wanganui will have of hearing the performances of the famous band which was -engaged to play at the Auckland Exhibition, and which has been sent on a rapid tour of tie Dominion to give the public generally a taste of its ex--quisite music. Although the band will, on its return to Auckland, have been •on tour only three weeks, it will in 'that time have given twenty-two conCerts, each of them with a programmesuch as has' rarely'been given in: the • "Dominion i before. The -performances of j ' the-band -'are marked with a1" 'finish' and '■ artillery which are alike surprising, until it is realised that the members are constantly playing together, 'that all of them are finished performers and artists, and that they are under the baton - of a distinguished musician who stands j at the head of his profession, and who -has the whole band, during a performance, at the end of his waving stick. There is nothing spectacular about the band; it plays to^ satisfy the ear, not "the eye; and its interpretation of music, whether of the lightest kind or belonging in the category usually called "classical," never fails to satisfy the i most exacting critic. To-morrow's programme includes a large variety of music which should appeal to everyone who has any taste for music at all. It is in no sense a students' programme, being composed of pieces which- are all distinctly popular. The outstanding feature of the selection, and the fruitful : source of comment and congratulation wherever the programme has been played, is the effective way in which it displays the versatility and range of tone possessed By the superb musical combimation. The box plan is open at [Messrs. H. I. Jones and Sons for the booking of reserved seats and a limit- • ed number of unreserved seat tickets may be had, also at Messrs. H. I. Jones ■ and Son's, from this morning. The band will arrive from Inveroargill to-morrow afternoon, and will leave on the following morning for New Plymouth and •Auckland. Country patrons of the concert will be brought into Wanganui by a train which leaves Pa tea at 4-15 p.m., arriving here at 7-11 p.m.-, and by a train leaving Marton at 5-20 p.m.. and reaching Wanganui at 7-25 p.m. " The Patea train will leave on the return journey at 10-30 p.m., and the Marton train at 10-45 p.m.
