The circular letter sent out by Mr J. G. Wilson, cnaTrman of the Manaivatu County Council, dealing with expenditure on roads to meet with the motor traffic to other County Councils in the district was received at Saturday's meeting of the Pohangina County Council. As has been previously stated the circular pointed out that the expenditure is of such a nature as to be impossible to meet it out of rates. Tho Rangitikei, "Oroua, Pohangina, Kiwitea, Kairanga and Manawatu Counties asked to pool their loans, if they intended t<T~carry put sudh rates, so that one large loan may be floated, providing this were possible. It was decided to reply that motor traffic did not affect the Pohangina roads to such an extent as to warrant the expenditure. Mr W. Gower, of Feilding, scored at the Palmerston Flowei •Show, on Saturday. He got fi^st prize for six cactus dahlias, for three castus dahlias, "a»d for three cactus dahlias, beating Mr Fred Nathan in ©%h event. A meeting of members of St. Patrick s Church Palmerston North, was held in the Zealandia Hall at the conclusion of the 11 o'clock Ztfass on Sunday morning to discuss matters in connection with; the scheme which had been inaugurated be the late Father Costello in December, 1912, for the erection of a new church. fMr'C. A. Loughnan presided, there being also present Archibishop O'Shea, of Wellington. It was decided to proceed: with the erection of a new building as soon as possible. Meanwhile an active campaign for funds is to be made. At present about £2500 is either in hand or promised.
