CHRISTCHURCH, February 16. Application for 'the recognition of an act of bravery performed by Robert Mei-z-ett, an employee of the Gisborne Borough Council, has been received ,by the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand. On January 26th. GVlerrett heard cries of children who were on WaikanaS beach, and he was told! that Florence Emily Marden. 7$ years, had been swept out to sea. He went into the water fully clothed and, after swimming 200 yards through the surf, he caught sight of her and ultimately, with the assistance of anotiher man, managed to get her ashore.
