The " Hamburger Niaehrichten" strongly protests against Mr Smuts' speech at a banquet at Johannesburg, wherein he predicted that the Union of South Africa would include the greater part— perhaps all—of the land south of the Equator. The " .Nadhrichten " asks if greater British Influences »re behind the speech and adds: For us to surrender German South "Africa in the far distant future is outside the range of discussion. Such incredible language is calculated to create bad blood in Germany.
