FOR MURDER
(Per Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, February 14.
An altercation between some waterside workers and a number of men from the steamer Makarini was responsible for the death of Harry Gallagher, a - trimmer, of~that vessel, through being felled by a blow last night. It appears that the men from the steamer were having a night ashore and went to the ''Wellington Hotel." Here they met some men from the water-front. 'Trouble arose, and an objectionable wor<l was made use of. Gallagher, it is said, demanded an explanation from the man using the language. At this stage the barman interfered, and sent the men outside. There, it is sieged, <a, man named John Albert Tucker struck Gallagher on the jaw. knocking him down, Gallagher striking his head heavily on the ground. As he did not make any attempt -to rise it was perceived that . the man was seriously injured. Dr. Hen-^ ry was sent for, and when he arrived "a^ few minutes later he pronounced life extinct. The body was removed to the morgue,- where ;an'inquest will be held. -'. It is understood that Gallagher was a £
married man, and has a large family living in England. Tucker was arrested, and will be charged at the Magistrate's Court to-morrow with the murder of the deceased.
