Business has been extremely slack at the wharf lately, and the tempestuous weather has had a great effect on shipping. !Mr C. F. Millward advises that the steamer Inga left Newcastle on Saturday for Wanganui. The Italian shin Loch Garve, with tiles from Marseilles, which has been delayed in discharge at Auckland owing to the strike, sailed from the northern port on Saturday morning for Wellington. ■ A new auxiliary schooner named the Pono has just been added to the fleet of the Northern Steamship Company. The vessel, which was launched a few days ago, is of 30 tons register and is to be employed in the cargo carrying trade between Onehunga and Waiuku, in place of the small steamer Weka. The" Pono's power is supplied by a 60Lorse power oil" engine driving a single screw, at a speed of about seven knots per hour. Captain J. Hoffey. late of the auxiliary schooner Greyhound, has been appointed to the command of the Pono.
