A severe thunderstorm visited Gore district this afternoon. A water-spout burst over a farm near Waika-ka Valley and inundated several farms. Sixty sheep ■were drowned, fences carried away and a, large paddock which had been drilled for turnips was levelled, the surface at the lowest part being covered with silt to a depth of from four to five feet. It is reported that the railway was shifted four or five feet. The phenomenon burst on the farmers unawares. They were taken completely by (surprise and could do nothing but look on and see their stock wajshed away. There -were 14 feet of water in norrie gullies, though it remained unusually cirv a few miles fl-way. with no rain at".-11.
