A SURPRISE PROSECUTION.

(Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Sept. 15. At the Police Court a number of printing firms were prosecuted "under the Registration Act for using a printing press without having given notice and received a cerificate as required under the PiUniteis and Nowspiajpe'rsf Act. The following were fined £5 each:—> Cculls. Colling and Co., Caxton Printing Office, Joseph Henry Cunliff, Chas. B. Smith, Morris, John Pierce, and Ferguson and Mitchell. For the defence it was pointed out that nothing had been done by the Government in the matter of registration for 40 years, and suddenly half a dozen printers were pounced on and a charge made against them and the charge brought "wherein the minimum penalty is £5.
