iln Wanganui Golf Club was favoured with beautiful weather yesterday for the opening day of the.annual tourna--meat on the Belnwnt Links. Notwithstanding tho heavy rain of the t«o previous days tho course.-was, thanks to grecnkeeper Thorne. in first -/class order, and the visiting players iwere unanimous in praise of the "links. The held, in the evezits played, yesterday -was a very strong one, players'being present Aroai, Wollingtoii, Auckland, Palme:stoar Stratford, .Hawera; Napier, Waverloy, Patca, Inglewood, Nelson',- and Christchurch. The presence of Messrs. A. D.wS. Duncan, Kapi and Kurepo Tareha and A. Barraud added coTis'tlerably to the interest in the day's play. Nothing very startling in the way of a score was done, the best being A. D. S. Duncan's 80 in the morning. leste;rdafy's fclay Consisted of itwio rounds of medal pla.v. the best sixteen qualifying to play off for the championsnip. The leading scores were Dunran 80-84—164, A. Barraud 82-85—1(37, A. H. Lewis 84-84—168, I. Saunders *2-SC—l6B. Two Medal Handicaps were played in conjunction with the qualifying rounds, the wirtner in the morning being A. G.
